An incredibly heavy and solid Iron Wood Pedestal sourced from Kalimantan, Indonesia. This lovely sculptural object was crafted from a solid block of wood. A raw and organic object with beautiful textures. Indonesian Iron Wood, or “Ulin” as it is commonly referred to is the hardest wood found in the interior rainforests of Kalimantan. The indigenous tribes of the island use this wood in buildings and structures as well as their creative and ceremonial artefacts and tools. It is its near indestructible nature that makes it a popular choice and highly sought after wood. This particular pedestal was reclaimed from the interior structure of an old harbour. For Iron wood to reach 30cm in Diameter it takes on average more than 120 years. This pedestal has a width of 40cm and is 35cm deep, reflecting incredible age. Ulin is incredibly durable, resistant to termites and other pesticides. A wonderful and versatile piece that is beautiful and sculptural on its own, or a wonderful platform to display items.
